Game NotesKiltimagh face a difficult task in qualifying for the knock out stages of this year’s championship following this disappointing loss to last year’s Junior Championship winners, Kilmaine.
Kiltimagh started by far the stronger of the teams and hit 4 points before Kilmaine got off the mark. Aidan Cosgrove opened the scoring and then Cillian Finn kicked 2 great points from play before he added another from a free. Kilmaine then got their first point of the quarter but Finn responded with another point from play. Kiltimagh were dominant and led by 0-5 to 0-1 at the first water break. Then Kilmaine turned the tables completely. Kitimagh faded and Kilmaine hit 1-1 shortly after the resumption to level matters. Ronan Malee nudged Kiltimagh in front again before a Kilmaine free had the sides level again. Again Ronan Malee got Kiltimagh back in front but Kilmaine were to kick the next 3 points of the half before Conor Mallee responded with a point to leave Kilmaine ahead at half-time on a scoreline of 1-6 to 0-8. Kilmaine had outscored Kiltimagh 1-5 to 0-3 in the second quarter and things looked ominous for Kiltimagh as they had lost their way after the first water break. Things didn’t get any better in the third quarter as Kilmaine outscored Kiltimagh 1-4 to 2 points and led by 2-10 to 0-10 at the second water break. Kiltimagh’s points both coming from Aidan Cosgrove. Kiltimagh were to rouse themselves after the second half water break. Points from TJ Byrne, Cillian Finn (free) and Dylan Roache brought them back within a goal and they were really putting it up to Kilmaine. A black card for Sean Forkan took some of the steam out of Kiltimagh’s fight back and Kilmaine stretched their lead to 4 points. Kiltimagh had plenty of chances to rope Kilmaine in but they focussed on going for a goal when taking a point may have been the better option. A late point from Eoghan Lavin brought the gap back to one score but, unfortunately, time ran out for Kiltimagh.
